SEG Bratislava is a Slovak organisation that primarily brings together students of geological sciences at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Comenius University in Bratislava, as well as other experts and supporters of geosciences. The organisation was founded at the initiative of Prof. Peter Koděra, PhD. and doctoral students of geology and environmental science. The Slovak SEG, student chapter, was formed in 2011 and is run by students as well as scientific and pedagogical staff of the Department of Mineralogy, Petrology, and Economic Geology.

SEG Bratislava has been officially part of the global organisation Society of Economic Geologists since January 13, 2012. This society operates in the field of applied geology with an interest focused on mineral deposits. Currently, the organisation brings together more than 5,000 professional members from 90 countries around the world. Its members work at leading world universities, in major industrial concerns and in state administration. Every year it organises conferences, courses, annual reports and symposia. It publishes the prestigious scientific journal Economic Geology (IF 2.021, 2010) and a number of other professional publications. Individual branches from different countries organise excursions around the world and thus contribute to a sophisticated system of ensuring continuous communication between experts from different areas of the geological world.
The main goal of our organisation is to provide information in the fields of deposit geology, applied mineralogy and environmental geochemistry to potential job seekers in this field. We want to contribute to increasing professional knowledge and communication skills in the field of geological sciences with a focus on application in practice, and to introduce students to trends in geology in our country and around the world.
Any student or young researcher at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Comenius University in Bratislava, or another institution with a primary focus on geology, can become a member of SEG Bratislava, student chapter.
