However, in addition to the extraction of high-quality raw materials, there is a large amount of low-quality raw materials that do not meet the market requirements and are often a mining waste. The first important objective of the project, in terms of circular economy and zero-waste management, is to focus on the efficient use of low-quality raw materials and mining waste. The project plans to focus on bentonites, perlites, kaolins and clays and their mining-related waste for their application in four types of building materials (BM). These are: supplementary cementitious material, expanded clay for lightweight building composites, clay plaster and mineral-mycelium-based composite materials. In particular, the mineral-mycelium-based composite, is an original material that can be a sustainable and biodegradable alternative to traditional BM. Another important project intent is to contribute to the reduction of CO<sub>2<\/sub> emissions through all four BM being developed. The main project outputs should be ten innovative materials at TRL 3 level and two at TRL 4 level. This ambitious goal can only be achieved through a multidisciplinary team of experts that combines Earth sciences with technical sciences. The project team is composed primarily of experts in applied mineralogy and economic geology, who will ensure the analytical and experimental part of the project. Testing of BM according to selected EN and STN standards will be carried out in accredited external labs. Scientific cooperation with domestic and foreign external institutions will also be an important part of the project.
