Such symmetries are characteristic, for example, for printing on wallpaper, but they are also applied in crystals in which the atoms are regularly &#8211; periodically arranged in parallel planes. In terms of the symmetry arrangement of the atoms in crystals there are up to 230 types of symmetry. Their exact derivation is very demanding in scope and content, and so the exact procedure is better documented on two-dimensional periodic structures, where there are only 17 such types. The first part of the text contains an unpretentious geometric derivation, the third already uses the mathematical theory of groups and the algebra of tensors. Authors, their publications and opinions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Much effort has been devoted in the past to the description of the symmetry of crystals, i.e., to the description of the relevant set of symmetry operations and methods for their determination. This has led to the development of the theory of crystal symmetry. This text was written with the intention of conveying the development of this theory &#8211; from the first scientific experiments already in the XVII. century until its completion in the middle of the XX. century, when this was done by purely mathematical methods. It was sometimes interesting to go back to the past and find out the genesis of crystallographic terms. In this context, it was primarily the thoughts of Fyodorov and Schoenflies, but they also followed on from important predecessors. Preto sa autori tejto knihy rozhodli doplni\u0165 defin\u00edcie stru\u010dn\u00fdmi vysvet\u013euj\u00facimi koment\u00e1rmi.
